TaQuinda Johnson, CEO & Founder T.Marie Media Group

Ever heard of the phrase “plates spinning” or “too many irons in the fire?” We often use phrases like these to explain all the things taking place in our lives. These phrases specifically tend to imply that someone may be engaging in too many activities all at once.

Looking back as I entered 2018, I was halfway into my first year working full time at my Alma mater, managing clients for my business T.Marie Media Group, kicking off my first year of Grad school in an accelerated program, launching a church plant in the heart of Downtown Detroit all while remaining active in professional organizations, serving in the community and not to mention spending time with family and friends.

If you were someone looking from the outside-in, you may have been tempted to think that T.Marie “had too many irons in the fire” in 2018.
But what you weren’t privy to was my commitment to God behind-the-scenes.
After much prayer about 2018, I took it by the horns and I said, “I am going to make the best of this year… I am going to give God something to work with! Faith without works is dead.
Nonetheless, I still had a lot of people look at me like I was crazy. Some of them said things like “T, you are too busy” or “T, you are doing the most… you need to slow down” or even “This is why you aren’t ready to get married … it’s because you are doing too much.” Don’t get me started there, I can preach a whole sermon on that last one!
However, with all of the plates I had spinning, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I was pursuing exactly what God placed on my heart. In spite of what others said, I stayed close to the Father and followed that still, small voice that helps guide me daily. I never let the voice of others overpower the voice of God in my life.
As we embrace 2019, it is so important to align our desires and plans with what Drake calls, “God’s plan.”
Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV) reminds us that He knows the plans that he has for us. Plans to prosper us and not harm us, to give us hope and a future. He reminds us in verses 12 and 13 that when we call on Him, he will answer us when we seek him with our whole heart.
God is not some mysterious man who doesn’t care about your desires. Not only does God care, but he wants to share His plans with us and grant our heart’s desires. As you commit to your 2019 goals, attend your next vision board party or even plan your next vacay, I want you to remember two things:
  1. God’s voice is the only one that matters. There’s something about the familiar voice. Ever been in a crowd of people that you do not know and the only person’s voice that you hear is the one that you are familiar with. In order to distinguish that person’s voice, you would have had to spend quality time with that individual. This year, make God’s voice that only voice that matters. This takes spending quality time with him in prayer and exploring His Word.
  2. He’s Got You Covered. 2 Corinthians 12:9 tells us that “his grace is sufficient (enough; adequate, ample) for us and his power is made perfect” (expert, proficient, flawless). Where our strength has flaws, HIS strength is flawless. He’s Got You!

So, this year while you are spinning your many plates, crossing off goals on your check-list or simply “Living Your Best Life,” don’t allow anyone to detour you from God’s voice and his plan for you in THIS season of your life.

Hey Girlfriend, YOU GOT THIS!!! Keep spinning those plates!!
